Sustaining the environment and the economy are two of the community’s
priorities. In making decisions the Council will consider the long-term
implications for the built and natural environment, together with
their impact on the community and the economy of the Bay.
The Local Plan is essential in helping us to meet the goal of achieving
sustainable development. It sets out a legally binding framework
governing the development of land in Torbay and contains policies
and proposals for housing - including affordable housing - employment,
shopping, tourism, recreation and community facilities. It also sets
a framework for protection of the natural and built environments,
and for transportation.
In preparing the adopted version of the Plan, we have tried hard
to embrace the views of our customers and to meet as many of their
concerns as possible. In particular the emerging Local Plan has been
the subject of scrutiny through a series of Member/Officer Working
Parties, public consultations and a Public Inquiry.
I am certain that this process has been invaluable in helping the
Plan to strike the difficult balance between meeting Torbay’s
economic and social needs, whilst at the same time protecting our
unique environment and conserving our natural resources.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in
the preparation and delivery of the Local Plan. |
